Holidays are another source of fiesta events in Sonora, as annual holidays are observed with long-standing customs and traditions.

Many of the annual holidays are celebrated in the same manner as is observed nationally in Mexico, but others have a distinctive Sonoran flavor.

For example, the traditions associated with holidays like Easter and the annual Day of the Dead are often a synthesis between the Catholic religious rites and indigenous traditions.

As a result, there may be some small differences between how the Papago (Tohono O'odham), Yaqui, Mayo and other indigenous groups observe the traditions.

We're still in the process of adding pages with information and photos related to Mexican holidays. As we add a page, we'll activate its link at the right, so stop back to check on our progress! And if you have any questions, comments or additions, please contact us. Thanks!
